Our Story

The Sugar Loaves is a 17th century, Grade 2 listed Inn. It has formerly been known as "Three Sugar Loaves" and "Railway Hotel" due to its proximity to Hollingbourne station.
A sugarloaf was the usual form in which refined sugar was produced and sold until the late 19th century. The three sugar loaves sign, much like the brass ball sign of a pawn brokers was the sign for a grocery shop. Which is what we believe was what one side of the building may have been used for when it was built in the 1600's.
